On Saturday, March 28th Okemo Mountain in Ludow, VT hosted its first annual Joey Jam and BND is here to give you the recap.

So what is a Joey Jam you ask? Well then you must not be familiar with the term “Joey”. To put it simply, a Joey is a wicked sweet skier or snowboarder who seems to be stuck in the early 90’s. If you have ever seen any skiing movie from 1989-1994, then you should know exactly what I mean.

To successfully qualify as a Joey is not very hard. Simply raid your childhood closet of any and all winter clothes or equipment and go nuts. This includes, but is not limited to, Starter jackets, headbands, Lee or Wrangler jeans, cheap and bright Oakley sunglasses, ski’s size 210 or bigger, single tip snowboards, sports jerseys and much more.

The Joey Jam consisted of one washed out…ahem…i mean wicked sweet jump and a butter box. However, rules were much different than most competitions. Skill did matter, but it was not about how GOOD you were, but rather how AWESOME you performed. To place in the top 3 at the Okemo Joey Jam, you simply had to look, act, and play the part the best. That included the outfit, dialog and skill (or lack there of!).

The winner of the Joey Jam received the totally killer 1992 Chevy Camaro RS 25th Anniversary edition shown in the first photo. This baby was not only purple, but wicked sweet dude. What more could any joey ask for?

So if you missed it this year, don’t sweat your wristbands off. The Joey Jam was a huge success, with over 50 participants on its first run they will definitely be throwing another next season. So break out your Sony Walkman, throw in some Bon Jovi and relax because your going to have to wait until next year.

I apologize for the fuzzy pictures, my camera was on the fritz… -Dan

Serious about boarding but don’t think you have what it takes to get sponsored? Well think again, Coast® Body Wash has thrown together the “Make Me Famous” $20,000 sponsorship for a year contest. That’s right boys and girls, 20k big ones.

The rules are pretty simple, they want you to make two videos. The first video is of you throwing down on the mountain. Pretty straight forward if you ask me. The second video is a bit more personal, show off your other talents and highlight those qualities about yourself that make you “special” (awww). Think of the second video as a Real World submission video minus the pink shirt popped collar.

Pretty simple right? Think you got what it takes? Then visit
www.coast-makemefamous.com for more details and to sign up today.

OK, sooo we took a little hiatus.. what of it? The good news is that were back, and not only that, but we brought toys too! Recently Shane and I decided it was time to get our hands dirty and build something worthwhile. After a few hours work we completed construction on two brand new 8′ x 1′ snowboard boxes, BND, style.

BND Box

These babies were made with not only wood, but also love and a passion for snowboarding. Their solid wood frames and polycarbonate top layers should withhold all the good times they are bound to see this upcoming winter. I’m sure some of you have the burning question “How did you make these”, well kiddies, put your hands down and check back later. Detailed instructions will be posted as soon as possible for your own at home box creation.

For now, there is only one thing left to do… Wait for the snow! Waiting has never been so hard…

Are you tired of staring at the boiling concrete wishing it was a powdery mountain trail? Have you recently tried to snowboard inside your apartment?

If so, you may have come down with a bad case of the snowboarding blues. Doctors recommend a healthy dose of fresh winter air once daily, but if your stuck in summer like half of the world right now than here’s a few ways to pass the time.

Skateboarding. What you can’t? I don’t care, go try. It is one of the next best things to snowboarding and much cheaper. Grab a board and go cruise on some concrete until the first flake falls.

Surfing. If available, take up surfing and get a sunburn doing something worthwhile. Boogie boarding doesn’t count, but your Mom said it’s OK.

Mountain Biking. If you can afford to break your bank on a decent mountain bike, than send donations to me so I can get one. You can even take your bike to most boarding mountains and try your luck at one of the summer trails, watch out for those kickers.

Motocross. Speed freaks will definitely find their fix in dirt biking or even quad racing. Hawk that old guitar or any other junk lying around and buy a big boys bike.

Video Games. Although there are no decent snowboarding games, killing some time in front of the TV has never been easier with todays console systems. Make sure to hit the gym come late august or you’ll be the one left behind on the trail.

Camping. Leave the Blackberry at home and grow a beard for a few days like nature intended. Grab some buddies and some booze and head into the woods for a week long stink fest with nothing to do. Killing time has never felt so dirty.
